GLASS DESCRIPTION

Tinted (or heat absorbing) glass is produced by the float process with the addition of small quantities of metal oxides to color the normally clear glass mix. This coloration is achieved by adding metal oxides at the smelting stage.

The addition of color does not affect the basic properties of the glass, even though the visible light reflectance will be slightly higher than for clear glass. The color density increases with thickness, whereas the visible transmittance decreases with increasing thickness.

Tinted glass reduces solar transmittance by absorbing most of the solar energy – the majority of which is subsequently dissipated to the outside by re-radiation and convection.
